Gear Guard Pro Insurance
Damage and GearGuard
Check Outside's GearGuard is an optional add-on we offer to give you peace of mind and protection from taking on the full liability of unintentional damage to rental gear by paying just a deductible amount in the result any of your rental items get damaged. Phew! That’s a mouthful, but in short, it’s an affordable way to add protection to your rental.
How GearGuard and GearGuard Pro Works
When you purchase GearGuard and an item is damaged, you only pay a deductible of 12% of the replacement value of the item or the repair fee - whichever is cheaper. Upgrade to GearGuard Pro to maximize your protection: in addition to protection against damage, items that are stolen, lost, or damaged by liquid are also covered. Way better than worrying about the full costs if something goes wrong.
If you do not purchase GearGuard, you are responsible for 100% of the cost to repair or replace any damaged or broken rental gear and may also need to pay a loss-of-use fee while gear is in repairs. Said another way, it’s all on you.
What We Consider Damage
We rent gear knowing you’re going to put it to use. Minor scratches or scuffs on the exterior of the equipment are considered ordinary wear and tear and are not what we call damage. We're really reasonable about wear and tear - after all, we're outdoor adventurer’s too! Anything more severe than this like a cracked or severely scratched lens will be considered damaged of course.
Similarly, fingerprints and a little dust are proof our gear got put to its intended use, but returning truly dirty equipment (it happens) may be subject to a cleaning fee, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Keep your costs down and be sure to return items in the same condition as you received them.

Damage in Transit
We pack all our equipment in special packaging material to guarantee it at arrival so there’s is very little chance of damage, but occasionally things get really bumped along the way. If you notice that your package arrives in really bad shape, notify us within 3 hours of receiving it and provide pictures of the condition of the box (any longer than that and we can’t consider it transit damage) and we’re on it. We know that receiving broken equipment is a huge inconvenience, so if this does happen to happen, know we will work with you on sending replacement gear as fast as we can get it there just be sure you tell us right away too.
